How bad do you want it?

We all have goals that we want to achieve. What it all boils down to in most cases is how bad to you want it? Any great achievement takes persistence and great effort. Sure we all have those wouldn’t it be nice to have goals but we also have those freeking awesome life changing goals as well.

The difference being that those who have achieved great goals have moved heaven and earth to make it happen. We have all heard stories of athletes who have over come great odds on their route to success. They never focused on why it wasn’t going to happen for them they only saw the end result and did what ever it took.

I read a comment on Facebook on a group this weekend that someone said that they have been renting for a long time and moved ever year for the past 8 years. I don’t know the reasons why but isn’t this kind of expensive to move every year and also the effects on your credit is not great. With the proper plan in place you should be able to afford to buy if you have been able to comfortably rent and move ever year for the past 8 years. You just have to want it as much as oxygen as Eric Thomas says.

“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential. These are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.” Confucius

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Be Thankful

Today as we celebrate Thanksgiving here in Canada, there is no better time to reflect and realize just how thankful we are. Here are a few of mine for today.

I am thankful for my girls who were born on this day 17 years ago, 11 weeks early and quite underweight are now happy and heathy teenagers.

I am thankful for my wife who made such a great Thanksgiving feast yesterday, and for our niece and her boyfriend for coming over to enjoy it with us.

I am thankful for my business, my past and future clients and the ability to make their home ownership dreams come true in this interesting and challenging real estate market.

I am thankful for such beautiful weather today and it allowed me to complete a workout in the driveway without having to throw on a sweater.

I am thankful for where I live and that even though the leadership changed here recently that public health policy is still be driven by science instead of a political agenda.

I am thankful for the strength it took for my favourite player for my favourite team to reach out and say that he needed help and the outpouring of love and support that was given to him as a result.

I am thankful for you for taking the time to read this, I hope that you can also take a few minutes and think about all that you have that you are thankful for.

“Pause and remember- every single event in your life, especially the difficult lessons have made you smarter, stronger, and wiser than you were yesterday. Be thankful!” Jennifer Young

Waiting on the world to change

Waiting on the world to change before you do something is a poor way to operate. The only thing constant in life is change, so don’t wait for the stars to align before you do what you have wanted to do, do it now.

Don’t wait for the 1st of the month or Monday to start your fitness regime or your new eating habits, start them now. Don’t wait till you have the perfect job to start saving for your down payment, start doing that now. Don’t wait for the real estate market to change for you to buy your home, do it now. There is another old expression and it says that the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago or right now.

Don’t wait for things to change before you act. Act now and become the change you want to see in the world. Every day is a new opportunity to be better than you were yesterday so don’t waste it.

Today I am thankful for the slower pace of a long weekend, discovering great books on my bookshelf that I have never read and the satisfaction of a challenging file finely closing.

Let it go

Thinking that you can control ever aspect of your day is ludicrous, let it go and focus on what you can make a difference on and your stress level will drop considerably. Most of us ( myself being no exception) are wound too tight worrying about every little aspect of life when in actuality many if not all of these things are beyond our control.

First off you have no control over the weather so let it go. You have no control over how other people react so let it go. You have no control over the economy so let it go. You have no control over your past, who your parents are, when you were born, time or death so just let it go.

Instead shift your focus on what you can control. These are things like your mindset or your attitude, your level of physical activity, how you spend your time, your reactions to events and people around you, your social network, how you treat others, your meals and your work ethic. Doing this your life will be much less stressed and you will be considerably less anxious.

Today I am thankful a great thoughtful conversation with leader in our industry, a file that finely closed after almost 2 and a half months and options I had not though of now becoming available.

“You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.” Brian Tracy

It takes time

It takes time for the really important things in life to happen for you. What people don’t realized is that the so called overnight success take years of hard work that we don’t see happen.

It takes time ( several years in fact) to become a Doctor or a Lawyer yet not time at all to work in an entry level low paying job.

It takes time to get into the best shape of your life, yet requires no effort to watch 4 or 5 hours of tv every day.

It takes time to build a great loving relationship with your partner yet no time at all to hang out and drink with the boys.

It takes time to build a book of business in sales, yet not time at all to complain why you’re not succeeding.

It takes time to save up a down payment for a house, yet no time at all to splurge your pay check on things that you don’t need.

Focus on where you want to go and enjoy the process and you will get there.

“Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it you can never get it back.” Harvey MacKay

Like nothing else matters

I want to start off my post today with a note of thanks for my wild child daughter Georgia, for not storming in the garage while I was doing a Peloton workout and singing to the tops of my lungs to Metallica. I figured that since my wife was in the shower, nobody would hear me but I was sadly mistaken.

Dance like nobody is watching

Love like you have never been hurt

Sing like there is nobody listening

Work like you don’t need the money

Live like it is Heaven on earth.

I would add one more, live like today was your last day with no regrets. Do what makes you happy not someone else, and most importantly be kind.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Disconnected

Many people were suffering from withdrawal from their social media platform of choice when Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp all went down for a few hours yesterday. However what has long been pitched as a way to connect with other people turned into a poor excuse pretty quickly.

One of the silver linings of the pandemic has been the closer relationships I have developed with my family. Yes we have all been connected with each other on Facebook for years but since last March when my older brother had Covid and then my younger brother had a heart attack, I have resorted to the tried and true method of touching base as we now talk with each other on the phone ever week and my 1st cousins too.

I have also applied this to my business. Yes I am connected with quite a few of my referral sources on Facebook and the other social media platforms. However I applied the same rule that I use to connect with family to my business and I set aside an hour a day to call and touch base with my referral partners and clients. As a result I have developed some wonderful relationships that would never have happened if one just relied on social media as a way to connect with people.

Today I am thankful that I don’t rely on social medial for the most important relationships in my life, that hearing someone’s voice is 10 thousand times better than getting a like on your recent post and one of the best things I have done recently is cutting down my social medial to 3 blocks of 2 minutes a day.

Constant motion

When you are constantly moving forward towards your objectives, you don’t have time to become idle get distracted with things that will sap your momentum. Also you should be moving forward every day, even if you gave 300% yesterday does’t mean that you will get a pass and do nothing today.

Saving for your down payment and or improving your credit are things that you can be working on daily. You can do this by managing your daily expenses and making sure that your financial commitments are paid on time. The path to home ownership my be longer or some depending on where you live and your current credit & income situation but it is still possible to get there.

Today I am thankful for a great ride for cancer yesterday with my team the cure cyclers, a beautiful and peaceful walk around the neighbourhood while everyone was still sleeping and a feeling of accomplishment rather than muscle aches and pains today.

Make it last

Make it last or it all falls apart. Let’s face it, unless we take care of something it won’t last. This applies to your money, your health, your relationships, your home and your car.

If you want your money to last you take care of it. The best thing I have discovered is a program called You Need A Budge or YNAB for short. This helps you take control of your money and finances so they don’t control you.

If you want good health then you have to take care of your body. Sure there are plenty of fit people in their 20’s, a few less in their 30’s and less still each decade you add. We do not live forever and we only come this way once so it’s best to take care of the one and only body that you have.

If you want your car or house to last then you need to take care of them. Sure people always want the new and shiny one but if there is nothing wrong with the one you have then if you take care of it, it will last. It is less expensive in the long run to perform regular scheduled maintenance than to have to replace your car or your home.

I am thankful for being in the best shape of my life in my 5th decade, for living in a home that was built almost 50 years ago but still feels new and for having learned how to make my money work for me.

Early Riser

Are you an early riser or a night owl? I have been an early riser for as long as I can remember. It seems that it is only now coming in vogue with the advent of Robin Sharma’s 5am club book. However I have to confess that I get up almost every day just before 5am without an alarm clock and don’t drink any coffee or tea.

I find that my days are much less rushed by getting up early. You control the pace of your day by starting it early with no distractions. Don’t look at getting up early as punishment of some kind but to allow you to plan out and set the pace for your day. Also don’t mistake getting up early for sacrificing on sleep, a solid 7-8 hours is still possible by going to bed at a good time.

By getting up early you have time to workout, meditate and read. All things that most people put off as they get caught up in the hectic nature of their days. The hours between 5-7 are times for you to work on you. Nobody is perfect and we are all a work in progress, and this is the best time of the day to do that.

Getting up early is essentially planning your day ahead of time. There is only so long you and take if you operate on putting out fires instead of planning your life. This also applies to your home. I hear from people all the time who are tired of renting. They need to plan ahead to be able to purchase a home. Start saving for your down payment now and YNAB is a great tool to help you do that. Also now is also a great time to start improving your credit as the best rates and terms are available for those who know how to manager their credit.

Today I am thankful for my early morning routine that has allowed me to meditate, read and work out all before the kids got up and needed a drive to school, for getting to know the names of all the puppies that we regularly see during our walks and a quick fix to my son’s hole in his pants.
