Grit

The road to personal or professional accomplishment is not a straight line. In-fact there are so many ups and downs, roadblock, u-turns and detours that it could make the average person crazy. It takes a certain degree of grit and determination to continue grinding out day after day when progress is slow or inexistent. Grit is the glue to keep focusing on your goal or objective.

This is the same trait home buyers need in today’s market. Grit to keep grinding through it when their offers get rejected for the 5th or 10th time. Grit to continue down the path knowing that they will soon be homeowners once they finely get an offer to stick. Grit to continue going when you feel beat up and want to stop but knowing quitters never win they persist and eventually succeed.

“Every great story happened when someone decided not to give up.” Spryte Loriano

Today I am thankful for referrals from people who took a bit longer to warm up to me, working with people who have that same sense of urgency and discovering new options to help my clients.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Keep Moving Forward

Want to make progress on your fitness, then make sure to stay consistent with your training and nutrition. Don’t take extended periods of off days, take active recovery days instead. Feeling off or unmotivated, do it anyway but at a much lower intensity but just do it and you will feel better for it. There is power in consistency. In business for your self, make sure to do prospecting and follow up every day. This is vital to growing and supporting your business.

The same applies to house hunting in todays competitive market. Don’t give up just because you have been the unsuccessful bidder a few times. New properties are coming on the market every day. Write a colourful letter and include it with your offer’s to improve your chances. Just keep moving forward no matter how small your process is today just make sure that you make some.

Today I am thankful for being able to stream a new release the same day it hit the theatres, the great sweat from a hard workout and the great conversation with a new potential referral source.

Other side

For someone who is out of shape, the other side of flabby is fitness. In order to get there it takes discipline and hard work. For someone just starting off in their own business, the other side of struggle is success. You must be willing to get through all the no’s in order to get to a yes. When trying something new it normal to be fearful, but once you have successfully pushed through it you will find that on the other side is faith. You now have the knowledge and the ability to know that you can do it.

I find that I am saying the same thing to my pre approved clients in our current real estate market. It is hyper competitive and properties are frequently going with multiple offers and often for well over the asking price. However on the other side of all these offers is eventually success as long as you stick to it and don’t give up. New properties are coming to the market all the time and sooner or later you will get your offer to stick.

Today I am thankful for an early morning run before it got too hot, neighbours moving out and new neighbours moving in and quiet house as both my girls are working today.

Practice makes perfect

The first time you tied your own shoes, chances are you were probably not very good at it. Your parents or teachers most likely took some time and after several attempts you got better and now as an adult it is automatic. The same process can be applied when you learned how to ride a bike, skate or swim. It took practice to get better and now that you have been doing it so long it’s second nature.

I have been doing crossfit and olympic lifting for quite a few years. Two of my kids have expressed interest in getting stronger and learning how to lift property. Since a 45 pound olympic bar is not ideal to teach kids who have never lifted before, I picked up a 15 pound technique bar. When starting something as complicated as olympic lifting, it’s best to start light and focus on proper form and technique.

These same principles can also apply to getting your mortgage done quickly and efficiently. I have been doing this for over 19 years so whether you are buying your first home or your dream home, there are not many scenarios that I have not seen.

“Practice make perfect. After a long time of practicing, our work will become natural, skillful, swift and steady.” Bruce Lee

Today I am thankful for my kids learning how to lift, lawyer’s sending doc’s so a deal can close and connecting with a friend oversea’s through Skype.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Mind over matter

Minor annoyances tend to grow much larger when attention is put towards them. Someone cuts you off in your morning commute and suddenly you are in a bad mood all day. Your team loses the big game ( sadly it happened) or the injection site of your vaccine is sore. You could focus all your energies towards what didn’t go as you planned or you can acknowledge it and get on with your day.

This is my frame of mind today. Yes they lost, that happens and I was still immensely proud of their performance during this year’s playoff run. There was also a brief time when I got up this morning and noticed that my shoulder was sore. I just acknowledged it and got on with my day. Ran 5K and just got back from donating blood and feel awesome actually.

Don’t dwell on what didn’t go your way, focus instead on where you want to go. Your day and your life will be much better as a result if you think about what you want rather than what you disagree with or what causes you some discomfort. Cause if you don’t mind it doesn’t rally matter.

Today I am thankful for the great people at Canada Blood Services who always make me feel comfortable and special, the arrival of my new barbell so I can show my kids how to lift and just generally feeling unstoppable.

Second Shot

No I am not talking about Josh Anderson’s second shot that helped my team with the game the other night, I am taking about the second shot of the vaccine to make sure that you, your loved ones and everyone around are fully protected against Covid-19. This is not a my body my choice type of situation, this is about achieving herd immunity so we can finely defeat this virus. Also at the same time protect those who are unable to get vaccinated due to an already weakened immune system.

Stubbing your toe is more painful and annoying than getting the shot, and most if not all of us have been there before. Thanks to the miracle of modern science we have been able to eradicate, eliminate and protect against these diseases which you have probably forgotten about. Here is a quick list to remind you but if you want to read more here is the link.

Vaccines are protecting us against: Polio, Tetanus, Influenza, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, Rubella, Hib, Measles, Whooping Cough, Pneumococcal Disease, Rotavirus, Mumps, Chickenpox and Diphtheria.

“There is no vaccine against stupidity.” Albert Einstein

Today I am thankful for modern science for developing a vaccine against Covid-19 which I received today, a quick painless process and a steaming hot breakfast sandwich on the way out.

If you don’t agree with me or modern science that is your right and I have no desire to get into an argument with you. I can not be all things to all people but I still wish you all the best.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Things you can control

No matter how you look at it, there are a multitude of things beyond your control. These include but are not limited to: the weather, your spouse, your kids, your favourite hockey team, national politics and your hairline. It is always best to focus on the things that you most definitely can control. This is your attitude and your perception of the events happening around you.

Nobody wants to be around someone who complains a lot, and situations as dire as they seem at the time offer either a problem or a solution. It’s up to all of us to search for more solutions instead of more problems. Having the right attitude is absolutely key to turning those perceived mountains into mole hills.

Today I am thankful for the opportunity to have my son attend a basketball camp for the first time in 2 years, 2nd shots of the vaccine moving up and breakfast for supper which we had last night.

Unmotivated

The days that you don’t want to do anything are the days that you definitely need to get off your ass and get moving and do something. I have always found that the days that I did not want to go for a run were the days that I have had the best run’s. The same also applies to getting what needs to get done accomplished and finished. That feeling that you did it feels so much better when you had to push yourself to take the first few steps and get moving.

When feeling unmotivated just look back at all that you have accomplished and how far you have come towards your goals. Don’t accept a setback as a reason to throw in the towel. Some days are three steps ahead and others are two steps back, cha cha your way there and you will find the you have achieved it in no time.

Today I am thankful for the sound of the rain in the morning, my daughter who loves to bake and realizing how far I have come toward my goals even on days where I didn’t want to do anything.

“Man is by nature restless. When left too long in one place he will inevitably grow bored, unmotivated and unproductive.” Richard Semler

TGIF

Even-though it has been a short week, with a holiday and a few vacation days thrown in, I am sure glad that’s it’s Friday. Since there was a holiday yesterday it feels like the whole country took an extra day off and I can’t say that I blame them. After all it is the summer.

With restrictions loosening it might be a good time to jump in your car and go explore. Visit a farm market, go to a u-pick and fill up on fresh strawberries or take a nice long walk in the woods. The down time will do you good, a few days away from the city certainly helped me.

“Welcome to Friday. In preparation for takeoff, please ensure all negative attitudes are properly stowed. On behalf of your captain, Jack Daniels and myself, welcome aboard. I expect sunshine and good attitudes today for our trip. Enjoy the ride.“ Author Unknown

Today I am thankful for the change in temperature as the coolness is a welcome blessing to the high heat and humidity, Friday the day after a holiday which most people have taken off and pleasant on hold music, really makes waiting that much more bearable.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Happy Canada Day

Due to recent events, this year more than others it is truly tough to actually celebrate Canada Day. The challenges facing our indigenous population as they discover more and more lost children every day is unimaginable. So even though we are not our prior generations we can still learn from their mistakes and make sure nothing like this ever happens again. What makes us truly a great nation is realizing that we are not perfect, but learning from our past as we move forward to a bright and prosperous future for all of our citizens.

Sincerely,

Patrick
