Little bit of paradise

We all need a break sometimes. A little escape from the rat race and the daily grind. This is exactly what we have done since Sunday, even though I have continued to work at least my wife and kids got to rest and relax and the change in location was as good as a rest for me.

Today I am thankful for friends who have a beautiful cottage by the sea that we were able to use, incredible summer weather and the sounds and the smell of the ocean.

Dog Days of Summer

I know that summer has only started just over a week ago but it already feels like the dog days of summer with the high heat and humidity and many people already starting their vacations. Don’t get caught in the monotony of doing the same things day in and day out. Spice it up a little and add some flavour to your days. Go away for a few days and work from a cottage, get a change of scenery and mix up your schedule. You can still get things accomplished but you should be able to rest and recharge at the same time.

Canadian summer’s are short and if you blink you will miss them. The same can be said of our current real estate market. The best time to buy is always now, with our record low interest rates there could not be a better time to become a home owner. The same is true if you are looking to sell, with historic low inventory on the market and lots of pent up demand your property will not stay on the market for long.

Today I am thankful for the hot days and cool nights, the refreshing coolness of the Atlantic ocean and family dinners under the stars.

Unplugged

We all need to unplug once in a while. Relax and recharge and enjoy the nice weather now that it has arrived. You’ve worked hard and you deserve it. I don’t know about you but that’s my plan the next three days. Respond when needed but otherwise unplugged so I can recharge and reconnect with the family.

Today I am thankful for the sounds of waves on the warm summer days, hot outside yet cool as a cucumber on the inside and groundhogs yes groundhogs in NS which was nice to see.

Ride for Cancer

Every year around this time I have been doing a cancer fundraiser. This year like last year I am doing the “Ride for Cancer” with my friends from Crossfit Basinview. Our team is calls Cure Cyclers as the actual fundraising event is a bike ride on Saturday Oct 2nd. I will be doing a 100K trail ride like last year. So if you see us out riding on the weekend, we are just training for the big event.

Now I am doing this for a number of reasons. I love biking and it is for a great cause, but the main reason is that I lost my Mom to breast cancer in 2005 and my wife lost her mom to lung cancer in 2008. There are so people I know who have been effected. My friend Shane just lost his mom to cancer and my first cousin Joni is fighting it now. If the money we raise could just help one person I will know that it will have been worth it.

Playoff Hockey

I have to say that for the 1st time in years I am really enjoying the NHL playoff’s this year. However I must confess it has everything to do my team since my childhood the Montreal Canadiens terrific playoff run. I remember watching a sports show leading up to the start of the post season and they did a poll of sports reporters and not one picked Montreal to get out of the 1st round. The underlying thing about this team is that they do not give up, they have grit oh and Carey Price.

What aspect of your life could you adapt the same pig headed determination and create some amazing results. Maybe you need to improve your sales, get into better shape or improve you relationship. You need to have the attitude that you will succeed come hell or high water and do what ever ( legally and ethically) required to make it happen. I may be eating my words soon, but for now I am enjoying the run.

Today I am thankful for another notch in the win column bringing us that much closer to the finals, a much cooler night and thus a better sleep and an email technical glitch that got fixed just in time.

Summer Solstice

Today is the 1st day of summer in the northern hemisphere for 2021. Also called midsummer or summer solstice. It is when the sun is the highest in the sky and the day with the longest period of daylight. Since it is also a beautiful day, if you are not working then get out there and make the most of it.

Happy Father’s Day

To all the Father’s out there, I hope that you have an awesome Father’s Day. Some of the best memories of Dad started with “Don’t tell your Mother”. I want to thank my wife and kids, cause without them I would not have the greatest title in the world which is Dad.

Rest and Relaxation

The expression “All work and no play makes Jack a very dull boy” rings true. Variety is the spice of life and you can’t just work all the time and have nothing else. This is why that even though my days are long throughout the week, 12-15 hours, I take time on the weekends to get out of the office and do something fun. During the winter it could be skiing or a long power zone ride on my spin bike but now that summer is here, nothing beats a 50K bike ride with friends.

Reward yourself for all your hard work by getting out of your office and going to do something fun. It could be going for a hike, a run or a bike ride or something a simple a curling up with a great book. Trust me that your mind and body need a break from the every day grind and it will do you a lot of good.

Today I am thankful for getting up to discover that my hockey team pulled out another win after I had already gone to bed, the rest and relaxation from a ride in the country with friends from the gym and the change in pace that the weekend brings.

Glory Days

You will never guess the song that I heard on the radio this morning, well more specifically Classic Rewind on Sirius XM. The more we realize that our “Glory Days” are today the happier we will be. They are also not some far off date in the future when you retire or the kids go to university either. Your “Glory Days” are now, the present moment so please make the most of them.
