Reboot

Like our computers from time to time we all need to reboot, rest and recharge. If even just for a few minutes. We can’t go flat out, 150 MPH all the time or we will just burn out. If you can’t take the day off then just take a few minutes and go for a walk to rest and recharge.

Sometimes Monday’s are challenging. Specially given the fact that I am basically working 7 days a week. So knowing when to pace yourself and when to take breaks is key to staying productive. In the world of fitness we call them active recovery days. I don’t take days off from training anymore I just do a lighter load day to allow for recovery. It’s the same for work I just space the breaks out.

Today I am thankful for a great nights sleep and waking up to the sound of rain, more olympic medals for our Canadian girls who are just kicking ass and incredible kind words from a client who was pleased with my service.

Pay Attention!

Opportunity or potential disaster could just be around the corner, by paying attention you can safely steer your ship in the right direction. Two personal examples for this are, I was running my regular Sunday route this morning when someone in Land Rover almost ran me over while they were not paying attention. I could hear the vehicle coming from behind me while I ran down a hill with a bright blue shit on and surprised the heck out of me that they came within inches of me as I ran. On the other side of it I have been putting in much more hours on my business and I am finding that opportunities show up in the most unexpected ways.

So that is definitely true what Thomas Edison said ” Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks a lot like work.” Pay attention to your surroundings to avoid the pot holes of life and you just may find that opportunities come to you in the most unexpected of places.

Today I am thankful for not being hit on my morning run, an upset victory over the defending champion in Olympic competition and a beautiful day to do some yard work.

Feeling Olympic

As the 2020 ( yes you read that right in 2021) Olympic games kick off officially today in Tokyo with the start of competition, it has me thinking of their motto “Higher, Faster, Stronger and Together”. That we can all make the world a better place through sport. Notice the word competition is not included, but that together has been added. This is important because together we as a society move forward and make ourselves better. Nobody has ever achieved anything substantial all on their own efforts.

The Olympic values are also values that we should all adopt in our regular lives. These are joy of effort, fair play, respect for others, pursuit of excellence and the balance between body, will and mind. All pretty much common sense values when you come to think about it, but sometimes common sense is not that common. So isn’t it about time that we all started holding ourselves to a much higher standard, so we can make ourselves and those around us much better.

Today I am thankful for the peace and quiet that comes with getting up as the sun rises, live international sports on tv even at 5am and the joy and sportsmanship displayed the athletes.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Half Full

The results of your day and even your life depend squarely upon your perspective to the events that happen to you or around you. Are you a half full or a half empty type of person. Either way it’s the exactly same amount of liquid in the glass. Believe it or not there are things that you can do to help generate some more of those positive emotions that will help tip the scales in your attitude or perspective.

Endorphins or the happy chemical, that when released can have an incredible effect on your mood and your general attitude toward life. So if you’re not having the exact day that you want consider a few strategies to help you naturally increase this fee good vibe. You can start by listening to some of your favourite music, spend a few minutes in the sun, have some dark chocolate, watch or read something funny or my favourite which is to get some intense exercise.

Today I am thankful for a great workout this morning, an early walk with my dog as there is lots to do today and the belly laughs from reading the Amazon reviews about Haribo Sugar free gummies.

“For me, exercise is more mental than physical. I crave it for my sanity. Not just for the endorphins, but my energy, confidence, and relaxation are all motivated by it.” Jonathan Keltz (I whole heartily agree)

Fill it up

There is a common expression that nature abhors a vacuum. What this basically means is that any perceived empty space will be filled up. If you don’t make room for health and wellness in your life it will be sickness and disease. The same goes for love and happiness. It will also apply to wealth and abundance.

We all get the same 86,400 seconds each day. Choose wisely how you want them filled up. They will get filled up with something, so start to make some conscious decisions on how you want to live your life.

You want to have a home of your own soon, then start allocating some of your finances towards a down payment before it gets spent elsewhere. The same applies to your physical health, invest the time today to start improving it or it will be spent elsewhere. Lastly use your mental energy to focus on what you love and what makes you happy, otherwise it is so easy to find things that do the opposite.

Today I am thankful for our amazing health care system for taking care of my daughter’s stomach issues, Amazon for waking my kids up with an early morning delivery and all the amazing technology that is available to run my business.

Entitlement

Just because you are nice to someone does not mean that they will be nice back to you. Don’t think that just because you are an expert with your please and thank you’s that you will be treated the same way in return. Expecting someone to be good to you or go out of their way for you if you did it for them is foolhardy.

Release all expectations about how others will react as you have no control over that. Do good cause you are good person. Be polite because that is what your parents taught you to be. If you did a favour for a friend don’t expect a response in kind. Do it because you wanted to with no expectation of anything in return.

The quickest path to frustration is to set your mood or frame of mind around how others treat or respond to you. You have no control over external events. The only thing you truly control is your response to what happens around you and your attitude. Take responsibility for your actions, be kind and practice gratitude in all that you do.

Today I am grateful for an awesome morning run before it got too hot and sticky, the last and most exciting day of the Tour De France and the excitement for a great week ahead.

Procrastination

Trust me don’t ever let yourself get to the point that something absolutely has to get done before you actually do it. Some people wait till they have had a health scare before they start to really take care of their health. My younger brother had a heart attack last march. At the time he was carrying much more weight than he should have been carrying and dedicated exactly zero minutes per day to exercise. Luckily he survived and is now eating better and exercising regularly.

Don’t wait till you have had a health scare to start taking care of yourself. Don’t wait till you’re 55 before saving for retirement. Don’t wait till your significant other says that they are expecting before starting to save for a house. Plan that you will live forever but treat every day as it could be your last. By that I mean make plans about constantly improving your health and finances but live in and appreciate every moment of every day.

Today I am thankful for the motivation and assistance I received to clean up my office last night, surprised and unexpected gifts and a really good workout this morning.

Great Week

What do you do to cap off a really great week? Do you go out for dinner ( now that we can actually do that) or do you have a big meal at home? Or even better do you just continue with your head down and keep working hard. This week is just the culmination of over 1,000 cold calls since March of this year. Matt Fraser one of my favourite Crossfit athletes and 5X winner of the Crossfit Games sums it up with just these four letters HWPO and it signifies that Hard Work Pays Off.

Today I am thankful for the relationships that I have developed over the phone, clients and referral sources that I have not met in person ( zoom is not the same) trusting me with the biggest purchase of their lives and knowing that hard work pays off.

First Time

There is something exciting about doing things for the first time. I remember my 1st date with my wife, the birth of our 1st children ( we have twins) and their first days at school. Today I am witnessing two firsts, I am helping my 1st time buyers buy their first home and also helping my new realtor friend close her first transaction. Very exciting all around.

The trick is to not lose that same excitement when it it your 20th transaction, because for someone it is their first time. When we got married the photographer at our wedding was very grumpy as he was complaining that it was his 8th engagement of the day. My wife’s best friend put him in his place by reminding him that it was our 1st and it was special to us.

Today I am thankful for my 1st time buyers and my 1st time realtor trusting me to help them with this important process, for phone calls at the right time that turned into wonderful relationships and that I fit in a run before the rain started.

Bastille Day

July 14th is Bastille Day in France or also called Fête Nationale. It celebrates the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789 a major event during the French Revolution as well as the Fête de la Federation which occurred on the same day a year later celebrating the unity of the French people. So have some crêpes, baguettes or a croissant and celebrate the French.

Today I am thankful for being able to celebrate Bastille Day by watching Stage 17 of the Tour De France, over 900 cold calls and they are starting to pay off and the anticipation of a great meal tonight.
