Rainy days and Monday’s

These are a few of the things that should not get you down. In fact no outside influence should have any effect on your overall mood. It should not really matter if it is rainy or sunny, your team wins the big game or looses, you get the date with your crush or they turn you down, you got the job or not or if your offer was accepted or not on the home you wanted to purchase.

The only one who decides your current mood is you. So when you get up in the morning, decide right away that it is already going to be a great day irregardless of what happens. Just having the right attitude will tend to make more of the great things come your way in the first place.

Today I am thankful for how great I feel after running 15K yesterday, clients who maintain a positive attitude in this challenging market for buyers and the therapeutic effect of writing every day.

That Winning Feeling

We all deserve to have that winning feeling from time to time. The trick is to set yourself up so every day is a winning day. Here are a few examples how I feel like a winner today.

A hug from your teenaged kids

A compliment or an “I love you” from your spouse

Winning a few bucks or a free ticket on the lotto

Waking up to hear that your favourite childhood hockey team has won another play off game

Reading a few chapters of your book before everyone else gets up

Great pace on my 15K run.

There are a multitude of ways that you can be a winner today. A smile and a wave from a stranger as you walk past them on the trail. Having a great conversation with an old friend. Pick up hockey game with the neighbourhood kids. Hitting a new PR at the gym. Making yourself the perfect cup of coffee. The smell of lilacs in the spring. Finding that perfect parking spot. Getting hired at a new job. Having your crush say yes to a date. Credit limit increase when you really needed it. Better yet getting your offer accepted on a new home when there were 30 other offers.

Call me today so I can help you make that last one a reality.

Today I am thankful for “Playoff Price”, exciting playoff hockey and seeing fans back in the stands at the games.

“Champions aren’t made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside of them- a desire, a dream and a vision.” Muhammad Ali

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Plan of Attack

Do you have a plan of attack for your days, your month or your year? Or do you just react to what life throws at you and hope for the best? Sure you’re probably really busy if you are always in reactive mode, but are you really getting anything accomplished as you are most likely just treading water?

If you really want to make progress toward your goals, then you definitely need a plan of action. This applies if your goals are getting in better shape, paying off your debts or buying your first home or your dream home.

Plan your workouts, plan what you will be eating, use YNAB to plan your budgeting and talk with a mortgage professional to get pre approved then work with one of the excellent Realtor’s in the market.

The best way to do it is in 24 hour blocks by planning out your day. Set your priorities ( no more than 6-8) for the next day, then schedule your time and work your plan.

Today I am thankful for a quiet peaceful walk with my dog early this morning, a 90 minute power zone endurance ride on my bike courtesy of Peloton and people who I have cold called calling me back.

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” Benjamin Franklin

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Optimism

Op.ti.mi.zm. Defined as being full of hope and emphasizing the good parts of a situation. Now I have to state right here that I am not a “Pollyanna” nor do I walk around with rose coloured glasses. I frequently have moments of self doubt, however the older I get I also realize that all that worry never amounts to anything.

You see it is so easy to imagine to worst case scenario of any given situation. What if we could use those same skills for clearly seeing the worst in ourselves, others and picture what things could look like if they worked out???

Instead of worrying about the innumerable things going on in your life, just presuppose for a minute or two if things worked out the way you want them to work out. What would it look, feel and sound like if you were super fit, what about your ideal home or your ideal relationship?

Today I am thankful for a beautiful overtime goal by my Habs, a healthy rivalry with my younger brother who supports the opposing team, to get to see them play at least one more game this year.

Don’t Settle

In these days of our crazy real estate market, buyers are getting frustrated from putting in multiple bids on properties yet still coming back with nothing. I have been telling my pre approved clients the same thing I am telling my realtor partners, just be patient as new properties are coming on the market all the time, so sooner or later your bid will get accepted on your ideal home. However when impatience creeps in people end up settling on properties that are not idea for them, may require too much work or are not where they want to live.

Please don’t settle! Don’t accept second best for anything. Don’t settle for being overweight. Don’t settle for having a poor relationship. Don’t settle for not making enough money. Grab the reins of life and take control. Once you take responsibility for your current situation you find that you have the power to change it.

Today I am thankful for the arrival of warm spring weather, that I can wear shorts to my virtual meetings and not offend anyone and doing a workout from my driveway while listening to the birds sing.

3-2-1 GO!

Those who have done a few crossfit classes are uniquely familiar with the expression above. It signifies the start of massive action. What have you been putting off that really needs to get done? Do you need to start exercising, then 3-2-1 go and do it. The same applies to eating better, calling and staying in better touch with your loved ones. What ever it is that you have been putting off or afraid to start just 3-2-1 and do it.

I faced the same thing a few months ago. I wasn’t happy with my current results that I was generating. I realized that if it is going to be then it is up to me so I really need to do something. 650 cold calls latter my business is in a vastly different place that it was at the start of the year.

Yes taking massive action is scary, but you know what it’s not as scary as standing still and doing nothing. Focus on where you want to go and start moving in the right direction.

Today I am thankful for a call out of the blue from an old friend, new perspective on an old game plan and renewed optimism towards the future.

Victoria Day

Happy Victoria Day fellow Canucks! Celebrated in honour of Queen Victoria’s birthday it is also the official kickoff of the summer season here in Canada. Now only if the weather would cooperate. Short post so get out there an enjoy yourself.

Today I am thankful for the banks being closed today so it’s much slower pace in the office, early morning sunrises when everyone else is still sleeping and new business relationships and new clients.

Get Lucky!

Let me put this right out here, hard work + persistance = luck. Sure there are the occasions where things may just appear to go your way. However I still think it has more to do with all the work that was put in prior to experiencing those moments of grace.

It’s like calling a child smart when they have done well on a test without really acknowledging how hard they worked to get that grade. This just cheapens all the work they’ve done. It’s much better to say how proud that you are of all the great work they put in to get that grade. That appreciates their work ethic and further instills a growth mindset.

The sales person who now appears to be firing on all cylinders and is having a month more in line with what others accomplish in a year. To the untrained eye they may appear to be lucky but behind the scenes you discover how many calls, presentations, showings, quotes and follow up they have been doing.

The athlete who is just killing it in a regional competition. Calling them lucky because of favourable weather, wind conditions or inferior competitors totally misses the point. You don’t see them posting gym selfie’s or partying with their friends. They are training and putting in the time and effort to excel when it comes time to compete.

So when you come across someone who is knocking it out of the park, don’t call it luck instead acknowledge and appreciate all the hard work that got them there.

“I am a great believer in luck, and I find that the harder I work the more I have of it”. Thomas Jefferson

Today I am thankful for hearing just the sounds of birds this morning when I walked the dog, quiet mornings when everyone else is still asleep and re connecting with old friends on the phone.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Rest, Relax & Recover

Congratulation you’ve made it to the May long weekend. You have worked long and hard for this, now it’s time to put your feet up and relax and enjoy a little me time. Even-though many area’s are still under Covid-19 restrictions there are still plenty of fun things that you can do to pass the time and hopefully unwind from all the work that you have been doing.

You can mow your lawn, trim back your shrubs or prepare your beds for summer

Visit your local garden centre for a few idea’s

Head out for a hike as long as it’s within your community, there should be plenty of options to choose from.

Have a backyard campout as most provincial parks are either fully booked or closed.

Do an online cooking course and make something new and tasty, from bread to bagels to full course meals

Read a new book

Go for a run or a bike ride

Listen to a podcast, there are lots of great interviews, true crime or murder mystery

Learn or practice another language by checking out Dulingo or Babbel

Video calls with friends and family

Have a family game night

Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek or Marvel movie marathon

Write an actual letter to a friend or relative, as well all love getting personal mail

Build a fort, play hide and seek or play hopscotch and with your kids

30 Years in the making

Just like sometimes people choose to take 30 years to pay off their mortgage. Good things take time. Growing up takes time. Personal development takes time. Getting fit takes time. Growing your nest egg takes time. Just like building a life takes time.

I found out yesterday that our beloved Tragically Hip, yes almost 4 years after loosing lead singer Gord Downie to cancer, have just announced the release today of 6 previously unreleased tracks. They had planned to make Road Apples a double album but now thankfully that didn’t happen. The new album is called Welcome to Saskadelphia, and I have already listened to it when I got up at 6 today. This was also 30 years in the making, further proving the point that good things take time.

Today I am thankful I have been able to hear new tunes from one of my favourites bands, good music no matter when it was originally recorded or released is timeless and the tears of joy at hearing Gord’s voice again.

“I had my hands in the river and my feet back up on the banks I looked up at the lord above and said hey man thanks” The Hip

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.
