Dig Deep

There are times in life when we are digging our selves into deeper debt or we are digging deep into our reserves of courage and determination to prevent that from happening. It really is a fine line between either one. All it takes is the confidence to know that we can do it. Getting into debt over your head is fairly easy thing to do, working your tail off to pay it all off takes some hard work but it is definitely worth it in the end.

So decide right now which direction you want to go. One will open multitudes of options for you but the other one will make you feel trapped and not knowing which way to turn. I know which way I want to go. Dig deep and give it your all.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

St Patrick’s Day

May the luck of the Irish be with you all day today. It’s the one day of the year when you can have your green beer and shamrock shakes ( are they still a thing) and celebrate all things Irish.

Also since it is St Paddy’s day, here is an Irish blessing for you.

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,

may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Relax

Stress effects us all in different ways. As I just recently discovered. The last few days I have had a pain in the right side of my jaw. I booked a time with my family dentist only to discover that the muscles and tendons in my jaw were overly tight. I didn’t think I had any cavities as I’ve never had any but was surprised to hear being stressed and tense could cause jaw pain.

So as a result here are some things that could help you relax.

  1. Go for a walk in the woods
  2. Get a massage
  3. Do a workout
  4. Talk with a loved one
  5. Have a pice of dark chocolate
  6. Have a cup of green tea with honey
  7. Do a short meditation
  8. Close your eyes and count 10 deep breaths
  9. Get some sunshine
  10. Get or give a hug to a loved one ( the dog works too).

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Preventative Medicine

Brushing your teeth is preventative medicine so you don’t get cavities. The same as doing exercise to prevent cardio vascular disease. However I also think that this applies to your finances as well.

Saving 10% from every pay cheque should be automatic and taught in high school when kids are getting their first jobs. Take the 10% off the top and put it in a separate account that you can’t touch. This way it will build with the power of compound interest and possibly with a little help from the market if it was invested wisely.

Doing this will allow people to build up a sizeable nest egg when it comes time to purchase their first home several years later. This also teaches you proper financial responsibility, as learning how to manage your money when you are young pays dividends when you are much older.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

You got this!

Monday’s are bad enough but the Monday after a time change and also coinciding with the 1st day of March Break is brutal. This always reminds me of a great poem that my Mom once gave me.

When Things Go Wrong

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It might be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Dazed and confused

If you were waking up this morning a little bit dazed and confused then it’s most likely due to the time change last night. With everything else going on in the world it wasn’t something that i paid a lot of attention to leading up to this weekend.

Here are a few tips to help you get over the time change blues.

1. Go for a run, walk or just do some sort of exercise today.

2. Drink lots of water

3. Cut back on the caffeine after lunch

4. Start your pre bedtime routine an hour earlier

5. Just try to relax watch some golf and remember that it’s Sunday

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Complacency

When you are complacent you are happy and or comfortable where you are at even though potential dangers exist all around you. Being complacent at work could get you seriously injured if you don’t stop and pay attention to what you are doing. Just because you have worked without steel-toed boots and a hard hat for the last 3 months doesn’t mean that your lucky streak will continue.

You can also be complacent in your personal life, when you are happy just the way that you are then you are not willing to make any changes to improve yourself. So you just don’t try anymore. It is also this failure to act that allows the evil in this world to persist. You don’t think that your actions will make any difference so you don’t do anything. If you see someone shoplifting and don’t report it then you are allowing the problem to persist and to continue.

As Malala Yousafzai can attest that one person with a strong enough belief can make a difference in the lives of those around them and potentialy around the world. Change is the only constant in our lives so don’t get too comfortable with the results of yesterday as they could be vastly different tomorrow.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Trust in Sales

The vast majority of professional sales people believe that you need to develop rapport with your prospect prior to getting the sale. While rapport is great, I don’t think it’s the determining factor. Neither is having an encyclopedic knowledge of your product or service going to get you the sale if they don’t trust you.

This is why I believe that trust comes first. There is plenty of time after that to develop rapport and that encyclopedic knowledge that you were talking about earlier. It doesn’t matter how friendly your are or how much you know about your product or service cause if they don’t trust you then you will never get the sale.

What’s the best way to do this, it’s simply to listen to their problems and concerns. How can you realistically present your product or solution if you don’t know what their problem is in the first place. This is what I strive to do with all of my clients.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Mortgage Related

For those who have read a few of my daily blog posts know that they are not always mortgage related. Life unlike the new Apple TV show “Severance” can’t be all of one and none of the other. My broker friend in BC Dustan likes to say that “life is variable so should your mortgage”. As you know all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

That’s not saying that what we do for work is unimportant, it is but it should not encompass all of your waking hours. Some people define themselves by what they do, like being a doctor, an engineer or a lawyer, while others define themselves by their passions. I see what I do as providing access to capital to fund your dream home or your next home. When I am not doing that I am either reading, running, riding my bike or just hanging with my family.

Today I am thankful for the fresh fallen snow this morning, the fact that there wasn’t a lot of it and brighter and sunnier mornings.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.

Little Changes

Little changes to your life add up to monumental improvements when looked at over a longer period time. A few years ago I adopted the habit of doing a few pushups before going to bed, I started off with doing three sets of 10 and worked up from there. Now I am able to do sets of 50 and end with a set of 100. As a result the pains that I use to get in my shoulder has permanently gone away. While I don’t think I look any different, it allows me to end each day on a high note, irregardless of what transpired during the day.

With our current price of gas hitting new records almost every day, have you changed your driving habits? Are you driving less or less aggressively as that too will lower your gas consumption. As the weather starts to warm up have you thought about cycling to work or taking the bus. There are always options to what you can do to adapt.

Did you find that during the shut downs from the pandemic that you had gained some weight, that you were watching far too much tv or were scrolling endlessly on facebook or instagram. Simple changes like going for a walk or picking up a book in stead of turning on the tv or grabbing your phone may help. You don’t have to make massive changes at the start, but just start to make some and go from there.

The same applies when you want to save for a down payment on a future home. Start by putting away 10% of your pay before spend a cent. Sooner or later this will add up and when you add to this the profession advice of a certified financial planner you will find that you can hit your target much faster that you had imagined.

I look forward to hearing from you in regard to your mortgage needs.
